Public Education.

The MCLU works hard to educate Mainers about their civil liberties by acting as a resource for information. The MCLU educates youth and adults around Maine by distributing information, organizing community events and public forums and visiting classrooms.

The Student Civil Liberties Education and Advocacy Program:

The Maine Civil Liberties Union's Public Education Program is designed to engage students on the subject of civil liberties challenges that face them today. MCLU seeks to provide students and teachers with access to educational resources, classroom speakers, and special curricula to enhance students' understanding of civil liberties.

Introducing our special civil liberties curricula: Teachers, these are designed for you to use in the classroom yourself, or call today to schedule a speaker on these or other civil liberties issues! To request materials for your classroom or to schedule a speaker, please call (207) 774-5444 or email info@mclu.org.

bill of rights

This fall the MCLU hosted over 500 students from 19 high schools at a series of civil liberties conferences in Belfast, Portland and Farmington.

Students and educators learned about the 1st, 4th and 14th Amendments of the Bill of Rights and why they are relevant to young people today.

Look for a student conference near you next year!
