What's the difference between Foundation and Union?

Contributions to the Maine Civil Liberties Union Foundation are tax-deductible. Donations to the Foundation support our litigation in the courts, help pay for public programs and public education materials on civil liberties issues, and help us to respond to the many phone calls and letters we receive requesting assistance. Donors receive a quarterly MCLU newsletter.

Membership fees paid to the Maine Civil Liberties Union are NOT tax-deductible. Membership fees support our legislative advocacy and lobbying work. Members receive a quarterly MCLU newsletter, vote in Board of Directors elections, and are automatically enrolled as members of the American Civil Liberties Union.
