Civil Liberties Need Your Support

On Friday the MCLU testified in support of LD 1561, An Act to Regulate the use of Traffic Surveillance Cameras.  The traffic surveillance cameras are a concerning technology because they can spy on people and create databases and maps of innocent people’s travel.    At the Public Hearing Legislators heard from concerned citizens, the Maine Sportsman’s Alliance and the Maine Civil Liberties Union.

Last year Maine’s legislature supported privacy by banning other types of traffic cameras. Now they need to hear from you about this new technology

Please join us tomorrow at the State House in Augusta from 9amNoon.  You will get briefings from MCLU issue experts on two of our priority bills – a bill to limit the use of solitary confinement in Maine prisons and a bill to ban the use of surveillance cameras in South Portland. You'll get tips on communicating effectively with elected officials and then a guided opportunity to have a meaningful conversation with your legislators about the importance of civil liberties in these two bills.

The Facebook event is here.
